| Gloria Steinem was born in 1934
in Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from Smith College. In 1968, she became the
Contributing Editor and Political Editor of the New York Magazine, which she
helped to found. She protested against the Vietnam War and racism. She was Treasurer
of the Committee for the Legal Defense of Angela Davis. She was a strong supporter
of crusading politicians like Shirley Chisholm. She co-founded Womens Action
Alliance (1970) and the National Womens Political Caucus (1971). She was the editor
of Ms Magazine from 1971-1987. She also wrote Outrageous Acts and Everyday
Rebellions (1983) and Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem (1992).
