The "Jewell" in Our Eyes

Last Wednesday we had the pleasure of interviewing Mrs. W. In the hour that we had to interview her, her warm nature and open-mindedness captivated us. Her real name is Anne Jewell, but her family goes by middle names. Mrs. W was born in 1921 and has been married for over fifty years! She has two children, a boy and a girl. Mrs. W graduated from UC Berkley, the place where she also met her husband. Her husband went to war and fortunately returned home unharmed. She and her husband have a very loving and equal relationship.

In interviewing her, her open-mindedness amazed us. When bringing up the issue of birth control, she told us that she does not condemn birth control use. These days, not only the church, but also many older generations oppose birth control. They feel it is morally wrong and it is the prevention of new life. She told us that she would rather have people who weren't ready to have kids use birth control than to see a "child born who is not wanted."

Also, Mrs. W told us of her efforts and participation in the youth group at her church. She spoke highly of the teenagers at youth group and stressed the importance of adult guidance in their lives. She loves children of all ages and understands how to interact with them as well. Mrs. W truly enjoyed her time working as a mentor at youth group.

Mrs. W has had an enjoyable life. Besides her loving relationship with her husband, she has been active in her community and enjoys socializing with her friends. She has been an inspiration to us and hopefully our lives will be as special as hers is.
