History:
Chromium was discovered in 1797 by the French scientist
Louis-Nicholas Vauquelin. It’s name originated from the
Greek word “chroma” meaning “color’, named for the many
colored compounds known for chromium.
Chromium is used to:
· Harden steel
· Manufacture stainless steel
· Form many useful alloys
·
Plating (hard, smooth surface, prevent
corrosion)
· Jewelry
(give glass an emerald green color)
· A catalyst
· Form bricks and shapes
· Medicine
· Dyes and pigments
· Tanning leather
