When the lower level of the George Washington Bridge was opened in 1962, it became the world's only 14 lane suspension bridge, and one of the world's busiest. It is also the world's 10th longest suspension bridge. The George Washington bridge was built in only four years and even opened eight months early. The George Washington Bridge is also home to the world's largest free-flying American flag.
