The Akashi Kaikyo is the longest, tallest, AND most expensive suspension bridge in the world! The Akashi Kaikyo spans the Akashi Strait between Maiko, Tarumi-ward in Kobe, and Matsuho, on Awaji Island. The bridge is 1,991 meters long (almost 4 km) and took ten years (from 1988 to 1998) to build, withstanding one earthquake in 1995 that didn't damage the bridge at all. The bridge is so long, it would take eight Sears Towers laid end to end to span the same distance.

Main Span:
Measures the distance between the two towers.)
6,527 feet
Height of the Towers:928 feet

To comprehend the length of this bridge... It would take FOUR Brooklyn Bridges to span the length of the Akashi Kaikyo!!
