Male African Lion
by Monica Czellecz

For our African art project, I decided to make a male African lion. I chose this because I love lions and whenever I think of Africa I think of the movie The Lion King. I made my lion out of recycled items. I started with the mane, which is made out of red, orange, and yellow galvanized wire that I twisted around a pencil to get the coils. His tail is made out of the same yellow, coiled, galvanized wire with brown feathers. The body is an old treasure chest I had lying around my room. It still opens to put things in. The four legs are made out of toilet paper rolls and tape covered in brown tissue paper. I made his head last and it is made out of newspaper, tape, and paper mache paper towels. I chose to make his face with gems and buttons. I call my lion Sunshine! I had a lot of fun learning about African art and making my project by turning trash into a piece of art!
