Botswana hut I constructed a hut. I chose a hut since I feel this style of living is very interesting and rustic. These huts are located and built in the country of Botswana, Africa. The Botswana’s choose to build these houses in large villages with the main kgotla, or meetinghouse in the center of their villages. All around the kgotla are different size huts with different decorated outsides and interiors as well. Men and women usually build the huts during the winter months when the plowing and harvesting are over. The materials I used were twigs, pine needles, brown string, multi-colored leaves and a Styrofoam base. I chose natural materials since the huts are built solely from what comes from the earth. I wanted the hut to look realistic, rather than constructing it out of recycled plastics or tin. Since it is the time of year when the leaves are shed from their trees, I gathered most of my materials from my own back yard. The Styrofoam and brown string gave the hut a good base for building as well as support. |
