Elephant For our African art project I chose to do an elephant. I think they are very extraordinary animals with quite a unique look. There is something about elephants that make them so cute even though they are oversized creatures with long snouts for noses. Actually, that long snout is called a trunk and it merges with their upper lip to feed on vegetation, such as twigs, leaves, and tree branches. They eat several hundred pounds of vegetation daily, which usually takes up most of their day. While elephants are thought of as lazy, they are actually known to travel 30-40 miles over night. They generally like to live and thrive in semi deserts, forests, open woodlands, and on grassy plains. The Loxodonta Africana is the best-known and most interesting elephant. They are much more rare than they were before man drove them away. They used to thrive everywhere in the world except Australia. Being able to create and sculpt my own elephant was very enjoyable.
