AFRICAN ART PROJECT
WORLD ART - SPRING 2002

In World Art we study the art of different cultures and then create an art project based on the art that we have studied.  In addition to learning about the art of a culture, we listen to the music, read stories and poetry and watch films. We consider the philosophy behind the art just as important as the art itself.  We attempt to immerse ourselves in the particular culture for the time that we meet each day.

The criteria for the African Art project was to either create an animal that lives in Africa, or to copy a traditional statue, mask, or functional object. Since most Third World Countries rely on materials that are readily available, the projects had to be made out of at least 90% recycled materials. These are our interpretations of what we have studied.
