What IS Rohypnol?

-Trade name for Flunitrazepam (central nervous system depressant). This is used for medical purposes in order to knock patients out for surgery and can be prescribed for short term treatment of severe sleep disorders.

Is Rohypnol legal?

-Illegal in the United States. It is not sold or manufactured in this country, however, doctors order it from neighboring countries for medical purposes.

-Available in Mexico, Columbia, and Europe.

-Those who use the Rohypnol tablets to sell to the general public have resulted in the closing of pharmacies and the loss of jobs. You may receive up to 20 years in prison and a fine.

How can you get Rohypnol?

-Think you've never heard of Rohypnol before? Think again.

-COST: The minimum cost for a single tablet is $2.00, however it can go up to about $10.00. This low price makes it easy for college and high school students to afford this dangerous drug.

-APPEARANCE: Rohypnol is an easy date rape drug because it is tasteless, odorless, and comes in the pill form. The bubble-packaging makes the drug appear legal to the public, therefore easily transported. Up till the 1970's the pill dissolved clear in liquid, however with the boom in female rape cases, the law required them to dissolve blue. Problem solved? Yea right. The people using this drug have become clever enough to slip them into tropical drinks, allowing the blue powder to go unnoticed.

Where is this drug?

-Rohypnol has actually been reported as being popular in "gay bars" on the East and West coasts.

-Due to low costs, it is common on high school and college campuses.

-This drug has also been used by street-gang members, rave and nightclub attendees, drug addicts, and alcohol abusers as a date rape drug against women.

What can this drug do?

Effects on your body...

Your body begins to show signs of ingestion, injection, or snorting, with in 15-20 minutes and can last for more than 12 hours. However, the drug's presence is detectable up to 72 hours of ingestion.

Consumers may experience:

-Slowing down of psychomotor performance

-Muscle relaxation

-Decreased blood pressure

-Sleepiness

- Nausea

-Drunken feeling

-Problems with talking and vision

-Loss of consciousness

-Dizziness

-Stomach problems
